Carlisle Extension

Location

London

Project type

Extension and Interior Design

Year

2024

The project came to the office as a ground floor extension in North London. The proposal adopted a simple and restrained design approach, which also helped keep construction costs under control. As the scheme developed and the client gained confidence, the brief was expanded to include garden design and a dormer extension at roof level.

Intervention to the rest of the house remained deliberately limited. The intention was to improve everyday living rather than reshape the entire plan. The new extension forms a combined living and dining space that naturally accommodates daily routines, and it has become the most frequently used part of the home.

Zinc cladding and slim aluminium frames strengthen the relationship between interior and exterior. Large openings allow daylight to enter deep into the plan while maintaining visual continuity with the garden. Together with the garden design, the threshold between house and garden becomes softer, and the spaces read as part of a continuous sequence rather than separate areas.
