Dorchester Extension

This project is a rear ground floor extension to a house in South London. The volume is gently filleted at the corner to introduce a sense of movement, but beyond formal expression the primary aim was to strengthen the relationship between the interior and the green garden beyond.

The extension is paired with a reorganisation of the immediate garden area, improving use, permeability and daylight. A combined kitchen, living and dining space opens directly outward, increasing visual depth and encouraging daily interaction with the outdoor space. Openable surfaces and the unified extension volume enhance light penetration while maintaining continuity with the surroundings.

Externally, the design sits comfortably within its context while expressing a contemporary character that distinguishes it subtly from neighbouring houses. Internally, a restrained and minimal arrangement supported the client’s brief for simple and elegant spaces while also helping maintain the project within budget.
